Jimmy Buffet and the Coral Reefers at Tinley Park, June 28th, 2014
Jimmy Buffet and the Coral Reefers
Tinley Park, Il
Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band provided a variety of music so diverse that Parrotheads might mistake his show for a multi-artist music festival. Highlighting Van Morrison’s ‘Brown Eyed Girl’, Zac Brown Band’s ‘Knee Deep & Free’, as well as songs by the Grateful Dead, Alan Jackson and a wicked guitar solo by Mac MacAnally of ‘Little Martha’ by The Allman Brothers Band.
Kicking off the show with ‘Summertime Blues’ by Eddie Cochran set the tone for the muggy night. Earlier thunderstorms didn’t dampen the spirits of the sold out crowd who settled in for a 28 song set that lasted just over 2 1/2 hours. Buffet’s ability to showcase the talents of his band pop up throughout the night, showcasing the smooth guitar playing of Mac MacAnally as well as the father-son duo of Peter and Brendan Mayer who performed ‘Getaway Car’ while Buffett joined the percussion section on the shakers.
Buffet staples such as ‘Come Monday’, ‘Cheeseburger in Paradise’, ‘Fins’ and ‘Margaritaville’ whipped the crowd into a frenzy and complimented Buffett classics ‘He Went to Paris’ and ‘A Pirate Looks at Forty’. Barefoot and living in the moment with throngs of fans watching his every move, Buffett went off set list to play ‘Havana Day Dreaming’ for a fan who wrote his request on a t-shirt, and made reference to a Parrothead dressed as Elvis.
Jimmy Buffett continues to show why Parrotheads flock to his shows nationwide and remain loyal to the brand that he has passionately built for 40+ years and shows no signs of slowing down soon.
